Due to the advent of modern technologies such as 3D Printing and propelled by the possibilities of the internet, the vision of Open Design – Design that is available to everyone to be manufactured, adapted and shared – seems more feasible now than ever before. The plans for furniture or the 3D printing data for accessories can easily be downloaded from websites. In FabLabs the tools and machines to build these designs are available to all. Is Open Design just a short-lived trend or maybe paving the way for the design process of the future? After an introduction into the topic, each participant builds the ZipStitch Chair by the American blogger and designer Ben Yueda (HomeMade Modern) as an example of Open Design.
